The MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI motherboard is an ATX board built on the Intel Z790 chipset for Intel Core 14th, 13th and 12th Gen processors, as well as Pentium Gold and Celeron, on the LGA1700 socket. The MAX edition is the refreshed version of the popular TOMAHAWK line, and its headline upgrades are Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 together with faster DDR5 memory support. It is a balanced choice for anyone who wants a strong Z790 platform for unlocked K-series processors without paying for a flagship board.

Design and build

The board uses the MAG military-inspired look in black and grey, with an extended heatsink over the VRM and an M.2 Shield Frozr that attaches magnetically without screws to keep NVMe SSDs from throttling. A pre-installed I/O shield makes installation cleaner, and EZ Debug LEDs show where a boot problem comes from. It measures 30.5 × 24.4 cm, the standard ATX size.
